8 October 2026 | Edinburgh Napier University

The AI & Robotics for Healthcare Research Group at Edinburgh Napier University hosted a research workshop on Thursday, 8 October 2026, bringing together TTHER Research Fellows, research team members, and visiting researchers from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand, and Northumbria University, United Kingdom.

The workshop focused on research exchange, knowledge sharing, and opportunities for international collaboration, providing a platform for researchers from different institutions and disciplines to share their expertise and explore common research interests.

Visiting Researchers and Research Exchange

The workshop welcomed three visiting researchers who delivered short presentations introducing their universities, research laboratories, current projects, and areas of expertise.

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cattareeya Suwanasri, Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, KMUTNB, Thailand, shared insights into research on high-voltage engineering, power-system asset management, condition assessment, and renewable-energy integration.
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Ruslee Sutthaweekul, Associate Dean for Information Technology and Educational Quality Assurance, Faculty of Engineering, KMUTNB, Thailand, introduced research activities involving smart wireless sensor networks, real-time monitoring, the Internet of Things (IoT), cyber-physical systems, and digital railway technologies.
  • Professor Sheng-feng Qin, Professor of Design and Head of the Smart Design Lab at Northumbria University, United Kingdom, presented research in AI-driven and data-driven design, digital twins, smart products and services, human-centred design, and intelligent systems.

The visiting presentations highlighted the research capabilities of the participating institutions and encouraged discussions on potential applications and connections across different research fields.

Workshop Presentations and Discussions

Alongside the visiting researchers, TTHER Research Fellows and research team members delivered 15-minute presentations sharing their research progress, recent achievements, ongoing challenges, and future directions.

The workshop encouraged open discussions and knowledge exchange, allowing participants to share research experiences, explore complementary expertise, and identify opportunities for interdisciplinary work.

Exploring International Research Collaboration

A key focus of the workshop was exploring potential collaboration between Edinburgh Napier University, KMUTNB, and Northumbria University.

Discussions highlighted opportunities for knowledge exchange, joint research activities, and future collaborative projects connecting expertise in artificial intelligence, intelligent sensing, engineering, healthcare technologies, and design innovation.
