Prof. Hongnian Yu Delivers Keynote at ISRM 2026 in Vietnam

Prof. Hongnian Yu, Professor in the School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment at Edinburgh Napier University, United Kingdom, delivered a keynote address at the 9th IFToMM International Symposium on Robotics and Mechatronics (ISRM 2026), held from 15–17 July 2026 at VinUniversity, Hanoi, Vietnam.
His keynote, entitled “Human-Adaptive Cyber-Physical Robotic Systems for Sustainable and Resilient Construction,” explored the development of human-adaptive Cyber-Physical robotic systems for complex and dynamic construction environments.
The keynote highlighted how AI-driven perception, real-time control, wearable sensing, digital twins, and human-in-the-loop intelligence can be integrated to enable safer, more resilient, and context-aware human–robot collaboration. It also examined enabling technologies, deployment challenges, and pathways towards the practical adoption of robotics in construction, while outlining future research directions aligned with the principles of Industry 5.0.
Prof. Yu is internationally recognised for his research in robotics, intelligent control, applied artificial intelligence, and Cyber-Physical systems. His research spans adaptive and robust robotic control, digital healthcare, advanced manufacturing, intelligent automation, and emerging technologies.
With an extensive international research network involving partners across more than 30 countries, Prof. Yu has led major international research initiatives, including the EPSRC Human Adaptive Mechatronics Network and the EU FUSION Project. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), and a Senior Member of IEEE.
ISRM 2026 brought together internationally recognised researchers in robotics and mechatronics. Alongside Prof. Yu, the keynote programme featured Prof. I-Ming Chen of Nanyang Technological University, Prof. Gursel Alici of the University of Wollongong, and Prof. Hung La of the University of Nevada, Reno and VinDynamics.
Further information about Prof. Yu’s keynote, including the abstract and speaker biography, is available on the ISRM 2026 Keynote Speakers page.
The symposium provided an international platform for exchanging research and emerging ideas in robotics, mechatronics, intelligent systems, human–machine interaction, and advanced automation.
